SEO for primary schools
SEO for a primary school means being the clearest answer to a small set of parent questions inside a tight geographic radius: catchment and admissions, open days, term dates, and inspection outcomes. It is local search work first, content work second.

The problem
The buyer is a parent inside a fifteen-minute drive, searching on a phone, usually in the evening, usually comparing three or four names they already half-know from the school gate. They are not reading your curriculum statement. They are checking whether the catchment line includes their street, when the open day is, and whether the last inspection said anything alarming. Most primary school sites answer none of those three questions above the fold, and a third of them do not surface in the local pack at all.
What parents actually search
Query volume here is low and intent is extremely high. A handful of terms drive almost all of it, and they are seasonal — admissions windows, open-day months, and the weeks after inspection reports publish.
- Catchment and distance queries tied to a street or postcode
- Open day and school tour dates for the coming term
- Admissions deadlines and how the application works
- Inspection and performance outcomes, often by name
What I would work on first
A local profile that matches the site exactly, an admissions page that answers the question in the first paragraph rather than the fourth, and term dates published as structured data so they can be lifted into a result directly.
Answer engines and small catchments
Parents increasingly ask an assistant to compare nearby schools before they open a single site. That answer is assembled from whatever is machine-readable about your school. If your admissions criteria only exist inside a PDF, you are not in the comparison.
How the engagement runs
A short audit, a prioritised list, and then implementation with whoever maintains the site. Most primary schools do not need an ongoing retainer — they need two terms of focused work and a maintenance rhythm after that.
Talk it through
Thirty minutes, no deck. If search is not your constraint, I will say so on the call.
